PayPal backs developer-built stablecoins with PYUSD platform

4h ago

PayPal is extending its stablecoin ecosystem with a new infrastructure effort designed to let developers issue application-specific digital assets backed by its PYUSD token. The payments company is collaborating with crypto infrastructure providers MoonPay and M0 on the platform.

The platform aims to abstract away the complexities of stablecoin issuance, giving developers tools to create tokens tailored to specific use cases while maintaining a 1:1 backing via PYUSD. Such programmatic stablecoins could be used in gaming, rewards, or other embedded finance scenarios.

This move signals a further expansion of PayPal's digital currency strategy. PYUSD, launched earlier, has been used for payments and transfers. By enabling third-party developers to build on top of its stablecoin, PayPal is positioning PYUSD as a foundational layer in the broader tokenization ecosystem.

Industry observers note that stablecoin infrastructure is becoming increasingly modular. The partnership with MoonPay and M0 underscores the growing trend of specialized providers handling compliance, redemption, and technical orchestration, allowing businesses to focus on product innovation rather than backend operations.
