Venture Global starts Plaquemines phase 1 long-term LNG supply

22h ago

Venture Global has begun supplying customers that hold long-term contracts with the first phase of its Plaquemines LNG export facility, a step that takes the Louisiana project beyond its initial commissioning work and into regular commercial service.

The change carries weight for the market. Output from a plant being brought into operation has often been sold on a separate basis rather than delivered under contract, and Venture Global has faced disputes with buyers over that practice. Beginning contractual deliveries alters how the project earns revenue.

Long-term offtake agreements underpin LNG project finance. They give developers a predictable income stream to support construction debt, while buyers secure supply for many years. For Plaquemines, the start of contract supply suggests the terminal is settling into steady operations rather than testing equipment.

Plaquemines forms part of a broader wave of US liquefaction capacity that has made the country one of the world's leading exporters of the fuel, with more capacity still under construction. Traders and buyers will now watch how quickly the plant raises output and whether later phases hold to their announced schedules.
