Visa Study Finds APAC Consumers Open to Stablecoins

3h ago

New research from Visa suggests stablecoins may find a sizable consumer audience in Asia Pacific. The payments company found that almost half of consumers across the region would be willing to use the digital tokens at some point in the next five years. The finding points to broadening curiosity about blockchain-based payment methods beyond crypto-native users.

Stablecoins are designed to maintain a steady value, often by tracking a traditional currency such as the US dollar. That stability distinguishes them from more volatile cryptocurrencies and makes them potentially more practical for everyday transactions, remittances and cross-border payments. For consumers, the appeal can include faster settlement and lower costs compared with some legacy transfer methods.

Visa's data does not necessarily mean that stablecoins will become mainstream overnight. Regulatory frameworks across Asia Pacific remain uneven, and questions about consumer protection, compliance and reserve transparency persist. Even so, the survey indicates that demand could grow if providers address those concerns and make the technology easier to use.

Payment networks, banks and fintech firms are watching such signals closely as they weigh how to integrate digital assets into existing infrastructure. If the reported appetite translates into actual usage, stablecoins could become a more visible part of the region's payment landscape over the coming years.
