SEC, France's AMF Sign Supervisory Cooperation Pact

12h ago

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and France's Autorité des Marchés Financiers have entered into a memorandum of understanding intended to deepen supervisory cooperation between the two regulators, the agencies announced. The agreement centers on oversight of investment advisers and investment service providers operating in both markets.

Under the arrangement, the SEC and the AMF gain a formal channel for consultation and for sharing information relevant to their supervisory duties. Such frameworks are generally designed to help regulators monitor firms that work across borders without duplicating effort or leaving gaps between jurisdictions.

Cross-border asset management has expanded, with advisers and service providers increasingly serving clients in multiple countries. That growth has pushed regulators to lean on counterparts abroad for data and perspective on firms whose activities fall partly outside their own jurisdiction. Shared supervision is meant to give each authority a clearer view of conduct and compliance issues that could affect investors at home.

The announcement did not specify a timetable or set out operational details. Both agencies framed the MOU as a way to strengthen cooperation on supervision, and further terms were not disclosed.
