Regenerative finance takes centre stage at Sustainable Finance Live
The afternoon agenda at Sustainable Finance Live 2026 turned to a question that has lingered at the edges of the sector's conferences for years: whether finance can be organised around social purpose rather than profit alone. Speakers framed regenerative finance as a design challenge rather than a slogan, one that asks institutions to account for outcomes stretching beyond returns.
Access to inclusive banking featured prominently in the discussions. Panelists examined how underserved communities remain outside mainstream services, and argued that closing that gap requires products built with those customers rather than for them, and that trust is as important as distribution.
Open data and artificial intelligence drew attention as practical levers. Much of the conversation focused on how shared data and machine learning tools might help community-led business models reach scale, while speakers also weighed the risk that poorly governed systems entrench the very exclusions they are meant to address.
The through-line was governance. Putting purpose ahead of profit, delegates suggested, depends less on new technology than on how institutions define and measure success, and on who gets a seat when those measures are set. That question carried into the closing sessions and remained unanswered.
