Partior and OpenAssets complete atomic settlement PoC

10d ago

Bank-backed settlement infrastructure provider Partior and digital asset firm OpenAssets have wrapped up a joint proof of concept, marking a step toward unified settlement across different asset types. The two companies announced the milestone on Monday, saying the test demonstrated how digital assets, regulated stablecoins, and commercial tokenised deposits could be settled in a single, synchronized transaction.

The PoC centered on atomic delivery-versus-payment, a mechanism that ensures the transfer of assets and corresponding cash or tokenised funds occur simultaneously. This reduces settlement risk because neither side can back out once the transaction is initiated. By linking stablecoins and tokenised deposits with other digital assets, the test aimed to show how fragmentation in modern capital markets might be bridged.

The exercise reflects growing interest among financial institutions in blockchain-based settlement rails that can handle both traditional and digital instruments. Tokenised deposits remain a focus for banks, while regulated stablecoins are increasingly seen as viable payment tokens. Combining both within one framework could improve efficiency and transparency for cross-border and intraday transactions.

Partior and OpenAssets said the results validate the potential of atomic settlement for institutional use cases, though no timeline for commercial deployment was shared. The next phase may involve live pilots with selected partners, as the industry continues to explore how post-trade processing can evolve in an era of tokenisation.
