Nasdaq Agrees to Acquire ATS LeveL Markets
Nasdaq has reached an agreement to acquire LeveL Markets, a U.S.-based alternative trading system. The exchange operator announced the deal without disclosing financial terms.
As an ATS, LeveL Markets provides a platform for matching buy and sell orders for securities, functioning outside the framework of traditional exchanges. Such venues have become increasingly important in modern markets as they offer participants more flexibility and lower costs. They also allow institutional investors to execute large block orders without the same level of market impact.
The acquisition aligns with Nasdaq's broader push to grow its trading infrastructure and technology offerings. In recent years, the company has expanded beyond its core exchange business into areas such as market data, analytics, and alternative trading solutions. Bringing LeveL Markets into its fold would allow Nasdaq to more directly serve the growing demand for off-exchange liquidity.
While the deal has been signed, it is likely to face regulatory scrutiny, as acquisitions in the trading space often do. The companies have not provided a closing date or detailed integration plans. Once finalized, the purchase would broaden Nasdaq's network of venues and could be a step toward consolidating the fragmented ATS landscape.
