Kora launches One Rail for Pan-African stablecoin payments

3h ago

Kora has unveiled One Rail, a new piece of payments infrastructure built to carry stablecoin transactions across Africa. The pan-African provider framed the launch as a substantial widening of its existing stack, extending its reach into a corner of the market that has drawn growing interest from operators and investors alike.

Stablecoins have become a practical tool in several African markets, where businesses and households often grapple with fragmented cross-border corridors, scarce dollar liquidity and currency swings. Digital tokens pegged to major currencies can move value faster and at lower cost than traditional correspondent routes, which has made them attractive for remittances, trade settlement and treasury work.

For Kora, One Rail represents a bet that demand for such services will keep climbing as more firms look to settle payments without touching slow legacy channels. The company has positioned itself as a connective layer linking merchants, financial institutions and mobile money networks, and the new rail extends that role into token-based transfers.

The announcement lands in a competitive field. Fintechs, banks and crypto firms are all chasing African payment flows, while regulators continue to weigh how stablecoins should be supervised. How quickly One Rail gains traction may depend as much on licensing and compliance clarity as on the technology itself.
