BDO Unibank taps Finastra to modernise payments infrastructure

2h ago

Finastra has announced that BDO Unibank has upgraded its payments infrastructure with the software vendor's Global PAYplus platform, a tie-up aimed at helping the Philippine lender absorb rising transaction volumes. The bank also expects the deployment to strengthen operational resilience and widen interoperability across the payments ecosystem it connects to.

Payments technology has become a priority for banks worldwide as customers expect faster settlement, round-the-clock availability and seamless cross-border transfers. Many lenders are retiring ageing payment engines that struggle with peak loads or with plugging into new clearing networks, opting instead for modular platforms that can be updated as rails and rules change.

Global PAYplus is Finastra's modern payments offering, positioned for institutions that process large volumes across multiple markets. Introducing it at BDO reflects a broader pattern in Asia-Pacific banking, where incumbents are investing in back-end plumbing even as consumer-facing apps draw more public attention. Reliability and uptime are the selling points.

The announcement gives no financial terms or timeline, leaving the scope of the rollout unclear. Still, the direction of travel is evident: transaction banking is being treated as core infrastructure rather than a cost centre, and banks are turning to specialist vendors to modernise it.
