ACI Worldwide and Circle to test stablecoin settlement in LatAm
ACI Worldwide and Circle Internet Group plan to work together on showing how stablecoin settlement can be folded into the banking and payment systems that institutions already operate, with Latin American payments as the centrepiece. The two companies announced the collaboration jointly, pairing ACI's payments technology with Circle's dollar-denominated USDC token.
The argument behind the tie-up is straightforward. Stablecoins, designed to hold a steady value against a conventional currency, can shift funds between markets without the stacked correspondent-banking relationships that traditionally slow settlement and add cost. For Latin America, where cross-border flows are often expensive and slow, that prospect has drawn growing attention from banks, processors and merchants.
ACI, which trades on Nasdaq under ACIW, supplies payments software and processing infrastructure to banks, intermediaries and merchants. Circle, listed on the New York Stock Exchange as CRCL, issues USDC through regulated entities and has positioned the token as a bridge between conventional finance and blockchain-based rails.
The effort is framed around demonstrating integration rather than a commercial rollout, and the companies did not set out timelines or financial terms. The open question is adoption: whether institutions in the region come to treat token-based settlement as a practical alternative once local rules and risk controls are settled.
